I found this on 'Sprinke on the fun' Blog today - really tickled my funnybone! And i hear myself saying most of these things most days!! One day in 20 years my girls will be telling their own kids the same things!!!

What my MUM taught me:

Pop's 90th

A friend asked me to make the cover for a guest book at her Pop's 90th birthday coming up. She wanted to be able to hand out pieces of A4 paper to guest to write a note to their Pop on and then slip them back in the book. All the books she could find were already bound. So this is what we came up with. I was severely distressed when they said - No ribbon, No rhinestones. What else is there!!!! No ribbon - not even manly colours!!! So I have used rub ons and fabric badges that Kaiser craft have brought out to match their pattern papers.

Well this is the letter 'c' from the word 'create' . Only 2 letters to go to finish the word to display at church on our craft table. It will sit on the table where we display what we are making at craft group the next month and where people can sign up to come along.

I am involved in our church craft group. We have called it 'create'. I am currently working on decorating the letters for the word 'create' and i will be putting it on the display table at church each week. I am planning on doing one letter per week. Here is the first letter i have worked on - the R - and the next one you can see that i have painted ready to work on is the letter E

Inkspiration Challenge

I needed to make a card for my daughters teacher so I thought i would use this sketch as my basis. I have stamped the bird onto blue cardstock and then paper pieced several parts of the bird using different patterned paper. Then i used UTE on the wings and tail of the bird to make them stand out. I also used UTE on some circles of matching cardstock and then stamped a flower into them. I hope you enjoy, Check out the other entrants into the challenge here

My Brothers Birthday was a Hoot!

My brother Jeff's birthday was on Saturday and I am always telling him how old he is (he is only 3 years older than me!) I wrote on the inside of the card that because he is getting SOOO old that soon he will be as wise as an owl!

I got a new stamp set on Friday - it is a Kelly Panacci Clear Stamps set of Owls and it is so gorgeous! My only mistake I think I made with the card was stamping the bottom layer of the owl and branch in black! Ah well! I'm still learning. I will endeavour to take a photo of the whole set and maybe of the other stamps I purchased on Friday too! I am really looking forward to make some cool cards with them!

Mothers Day Card

Well I got busy last night to make a card for Mum today! When I left NZ Amy put into a bag some papers that I had been looking at to make a card over there - but ran out of time - so I thought I would put them to good use and make a card for Mum. I also played with the UTEE that Sandy and Amy showed me how to use and made an extra little flower to go in the centre of the large flower. It was fun to play with some new stuff and gorgeous papers.

Mojo Monday - Week 84

I thought i would give the Mojo Monday sketch a go and make a card for my lovely husband for when i go home. I am on holidays staying with my awesome friend Amy Fleming from Me&MiStamps (go and check out her amazing work!) and I have had such an amazing time playing with Amy's card supplies and stamps that i dont have (actually I really dont have many stamps!) so it has been fun. She has gorgeous ribbons and all the colours match - fantastic fun!! I could just play all day - but the kids are going crazy!! Hope you're all having as much fun creating as I am!!

Stamping Again & Lovin' it!

I am over here in New Zealand for 2 weeks staying with my friend Amy and she has gotten my creative juice going again!! Also Amy and her friend Sandy have taught me some new techniques with cold laminate and opals and UTE so watch this space for when i get home and try them out on some cards - cant wait to buy some new products.

Well Amy borrowed some stamps from her upline Sharlene (thanks for letting us play Sharlene!) and I needed to make some cards for some very special people at home that have allowed me to have 2 weeks off my life. My friend Anne-Marie who picks up my kids each day for school and my Mum who has been picking them up from school and putting dinner on each night. They are two amazing women!! So here are the cards i made for them.

My most favorite card at the moment

Well this one i am pretty proud of and happy with. It has a waterfall thing inside that you could stick photos onto or just embellish?

A friend from schooll - Faye - gave myself and about 3 or 4 others a little class after school last year on how to make these cards. It was so much fun. But when i left i had only made the base card and not decorated the front of it at all. So last week i decided it was time to pull it out and finish the job!

All the edges of the green card are inked with a rose ink. I distressed the edges of the patterned paper and straight stiched around it. I inked the lemon and pink diamond card with emerald ink. They are also distressed but a little hard to tell after i zig zag stiched it. There are rhinestones in each corner. The flower - cut from the sizzix has 5 layers and a button on top. The ribbon accross the front has green and pink through it. The tab on the side that you pull to show the waterfall flaps on the inside has a narrow pink strip down it that is also zig zig stiched and finished off with a metal embellishment.

Mucking around again

I bought some new oval spellbinder nestablities and i wanted to play around and see what i could do with them. Well i like that you can either make a frame or a solid oval. Quite cool really. I also got a large box of mixed ribbons with some birthday money and this ribbon worked perfectly with the colours. It had spots of green and brown and pink on it. I really should've added some brown onto the card as well. I think i let myself down when i don't do enough layering of colours on my cards. When i am making them i think that they are ok - its not till later when i see Amy's cards here that i realise i could've done more on mine. She is amazing with her layering of colours - even if it is just in the background. It really makes a difference. Maybe i should set myself a challenge of improving this card - make a one the same but add layers or other stuff.

Girls school journals

I actually covered these journals for the girls on Black Saturday just before the fires(for those from overseas - that was the 7th Feb - when it was 47 degrees celsius and when 210 people died in the bushfires) I needed to cover about 15 books that day - 5 for each of my kids at school. And i decided to do something a bit more special for the girls journals. I took photos of them before i covered them in clear contact. I was afraid that i might stuff up the clear stuff and ruin them - but they actually covered really easily. I stamped their name down the right hand side and i let the girls choose 2 sheets of patterned paper they liked for the strips and the flowers. They were really happy and proud of them.

Well I'm back in action. My computer broke down..... the poor thing. It took my computer man over a week to figure out what was wrong with it. I think the RAM broke!! So i haven't had access to a computer for a while! I think it almost killed my husband and eldest son. I was trying to get them to realise that there is a life outside the internet! It is amazing how much time you have to get things done when your not sitting on the computer all the time!

This is lucy at their back fence looking out over the burnt land -that is normally full of cows. To top of the photo are vineyards - one section that was diseased was burnt out - but the green ones remained.

The grandparents lived in the ruins of this home - which is maybe 300 metres from their place down the road. Their grandfather was safe standing on a green patch of grass in the front yard. The left of the photo shows the remains of the chimney

Of course what do all good aussie kids want to do - even in a terrible time - play cricket!! They were so excited that they could play cricket in the paddock - cos there were no cattle there at the moment - they lost all their fencing in the fires. Mind you they were all black when we got home!!

This shos how close the fire came - its not showing in this photo - but their house is right at the left of the photo.

This is their farm car - all the fencing just around the house was still smoldering even when we went their last monday.

The kids teacher from Buxton was back at school today - we were so glad to see her. People are kinda starting to relax - but the fires are still outside Healesville - so many families are still on edge.

Victorian Bushfires

I wanted to share some of what is happening in our lives this week - somehow cards and pretty papers just don't seem important right now.

This is a photo of Chateu Yering - very close to our kids school (within minutes).

The smoke from the fires has even reached as far as New Zealand

What a tale of survival - a house safe amongst the fire

People said it was like it was raining fire - this shows you how it did.

These are just some of the photos of the fires that have devasted our area and most of the state. They are still burning. Three of our schools 4 teachers have been affected by the fires. They are safe and their homes are safe - but homes burnt around them. It is so hard to deal with the devastation and the terrifying stories that i continue to hear from people from our school who live amongst the fire affected areas.

Please give to the Red Cross Appeal and pray for the fire fighters who are still fighting to keep lives and properties safe. Pray for those who are grieving for lost families and friends and pray for those who have lost everything they owned.

But also praise God for those who were kept safe in only miraculous circumstances. I can only tell them that an Angel was sent by God protected them and their family as they were inside their home with fire all around but they came out unscathed and their house is ok. But fire was right up to the back door.

And here is my last photos - it was taken from my school crossing this morning. You can see the smoke from the nearby fires.

Scary Day in Melbourne

We have had fires all over Victoria since yesterday. Yesterday it was at least 48 degrees celsius with 70 kph winds. They have said this morning that at least 25 people have died and over 100 homes lost. And there are still active fires burning. We had friends that have had to move their live stock and could see the flames from their houses. They were hosing their home down to protect it. I was scared when after dinner i had just showered the kids and was hanging up their towels when i looked out the back window and could see glowing smoke billowing near our backyard. I called my husband - screaming - smoke - there is fire close! We checked the CFA website to see where it was coming from - it was about 5-10km away. Thankfully the wind dropped. My friends are safe - but are currently helping other of their friends shift horses to safety too. The fires are still burning. We all need to pray for rain and safety. It really puts your life into perspective when things like this happen.

Kwerner Colour Challenge #40

Well how do you like this - 2 posts in one day!!

I used a cuttlebug embossing folder for the base of the card and then swiped it with white ink. I used a butterfly patterened paper for the more mustard colour. I used a circle stamp from my paper crafts clear cling stamps set. I set a light olive colour rhinestone in the centre of the flower. The only teal things i had was some really ugly ribbon and some buttons - so buttons it was, with some so saffron coloured embroidery thread. I really like this layout - but don't really love the colours. But again - i like that i am trying other colour options. Go here and check out the other entries.

Mojo Monday Challenge #72

Well I'm finally back! I kinda lacked any creative interest with the weather being so hot, then i was busy organizing the kids going back to school. You know the drill, label everything, organize everything! Well they are back and starting to settle in. My eldest has gone into a new class room and has a new teacher - lots to get used to. And my second youngest started school this week too. So 3 at school this year! I finally sat down yesterday to make this card. I did it in time to go and pick up the kids from school! YEAH! But then last night i was searching for the card to take a photo of it - and guess what - i had lost it. Searched everywhere - in the end i went out to the bin - and of course - i had thrown it out accidentally and was ruined by food etc! How very annoying. Tracking my weight loss

Well i didn't quite as well as i had hoped at weigh in this week. I actually put on 100 grams. So i am now 85.4kg. They said that lots of people are retaining water cos of the heat (it is 43 degrees here at the moment) but it also might have been those couple of spoonfuls of Nutella i snuck in!!

Anyway - salads and fruit are the order for the day - too hot for much else.

Inkspirations Inspiration Challenge #3

I wanted to participate in Makeesha's Challenge again you can find it here.

This challenge uses the top picture to inspire your creation. When i first saw the picture I immediately thought of the pots of Crysanthumems that you give your mother on Mothers Day each year! So I decided to make my own pot of crysanthemums using some of the colours in the challenge image as well. I used textured paper to make my pot and inked and coloured it. Then i punched plenty of flowers in a ruby red colour, blue bayou and a pale pink. I tore the leaves out of a green textured paper. I stiched around the border and distressed the edges also.

Another Thank You Card

Well you can never have enough Thank You cards as far as I am concerned. How nice it feels when someone does something nice for you and then to send them a little card letting them know how wonderful you felt because of their actions. So I thought i might start to make a few to have on hand for such occasions. I really need to send one to a friend who has been fabulous recently, she even gave me a bunch of flowers last saturday after we bumped into each other at the shops and she saw how stressed i was! A really lovely friend.

The cardstock i used would be close to the Stampin Up colours of Ruby Red, Certain Celery and Apricot Appeal. The main image is actually a peice of vellum that i have just cut to size and stamped Thanks onto. Isn't it the most gorgeous vellum. And just a small amount of bling in the corner.

Inkspirations Colour Challenge #3

I really love doing these colour challenges as it has forced me to put colours together that i wouldn't normally use. I wouldn't normally put brown with a red or blue. But it turns out looking fabulous!

I used a Hero Arts stamp i bought a few years ago and coloured it in with chalks and gave her a pink rhinestone for the gem on her necklace. I rubbed white ink onto the embossed scalloped circles. Stamped Thank You at the bottom of the card and finished it of with a vanilla organza ribbon. I think it has an air of elegance!!

Sammy's 3rd Birthday Card & Mojo Monday Challenge

I wanted to try another MOJO Monday Sketch Challenge and I really needed to make my youngest son Samuel a birthday card for his birthday tommorrow. So i thought i would merge the two. Not sure if I am happy with the outcome. My eyes dont enjoy brown very much - however brown and green are his favorite colours. Tracking my weight loss

I have been working really hard this week on tracking everything that enters my mouth!! I have written it all down. I have been mostly really good with food. I actually bought a huge watermelon yesterday. So that will help me!! It was 11.4kg heavy!! but was only .77 cents a kilo. so it was cheaper than buying it cut up which was $1.88 kilo. So half my fridge is full of watermelon!

Anyway I weighed in last night at slimmers club and i lost 1kg. So last week i was 86.3kg. Now i am 85.3kg.

This week i might try and do a couple of slow walks as well to get the fat moving!! I get pain in my heels when i do too much walking - so i will try and take it slow.

I saw a card in one of the papercraft and stamping magazines a while ago and i couldn't find which one as to give credit for the idea to the person who made it (sorry). but i love the idea of all the ribbon. Mine didn't turn out exactly how i pictured it in my head but it was worth giving it a go. Hope you like it

I had a ball last night. I was stiching and cutting and stiching and cutting! loved it. I bought a small pad of what i thought was cardstock. but it turns out that it is actually sticker paper. Well that came in handy when i was working on this log cabin design card - meant lots less adhesive. Some of the stiching is wonky but it was a first try - so practice makes perfect!

I bought this gorgeous paper yesterday at Scrappy Hollow in Croydon and i just had to use it to make a card. Some of the spots have sparkle on it. And i got this stamp set from Big W. I added a gem flower over the top of the stamped flower to add some bling. I really love the look of the circles nesting in each other and the circle stamps are great. Made some more cards tonight that i will post tomorrow.

Kwerner Colour Challenge #38 - No.2

Well i enjoyed this challenge so much i decided to do another!! Before i made the first card i found the cute little tag in my drawers. It is a pale pink check tag. So i stamped the tag outline with lines on it and picked out a few words. I also stamped up the heart and filled it with fine crystal glitter. Then I put it through the sewing machine and added some stiching. i really liked the tag but it just didn't fit with the first card. I punched some small flowers and added some rhinestones & pearls. I stapled some ribbon to the side - it is a pale pink with white stiching. The last thing i added was the pink ricrac to the bottom of the card. I think i'm hooked to these colour challenges! Kwerner Colour Challenge #38

This is my very first attempt at a Kwerner Colour Challenge. I wouldn't normally do anything with orange in it - however - i thought - that is the idea of these challenges, to use colours that you wouldn't normally use. I tried to match the colours to cardstock i have as i dont have any Stampin' up stuff. I ran the white base cardstock through the Big Kick with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. And cut 2 scalloped circle nestabilaties in the Big Kick also. I added a single pink pearl to the centre of the stamp and a pink stiched ribbon for some bling. Tracking my weight loss

I have been trying to lose weight for the past year. I have about 20kg to loose. I attend the Healesville Slimmers Club and it is every Tuesday night. I thought if i blogged how i was going i might be less tempted to stray!! Having a 'bad week' emotionally isn't an excuse for eating - it doesn't make the problem go away - it just makes it worse.

So here goes!!

I weighed in last night at 86.3kg. My goal is to get to around the 65kg mark. I will try to post each wednesday what my weight is and how much i have lost.

Photo Wall Creation

This is my other latest creation. I have been working on a Photo wall in our Lounge room. I have heaps and heaps of frames and know what photos i want - but not what size i want them!! I am using Clip it frames - they are fantastic. There is no frame around them - just the glass. So the photo is the main attraction. It is not as easy as i thought it would be fitting them in just right. its like a jigsaw that doesn't have a box to copy off!! So i thought i might post little updates when i add new photos to the wall. i am hoping to cover the wall between the two wall lamps. this wall will only have family shots on it - immediate and extended family that is. I will put my flower shots and bird shots on another wall.

Mojo Monday Challenge #69

The next Challenge I have given a go is the Mojo Monday Challenge #69 from here. I really enjoyed this one and it came together really easily. I used colours that I don't normally use but i still really like the outcome. I used the Big Kick to cut and emboss the butterfly and to cut the scalloped circle. Hope you like it!

Taylored Expressions Cup Cake Challenge #50

Here is my first attempt at a sketch challenge. I got it from here I used my Big Kick to cut scalloped circles in a maroon felt and used a flower ribbon on cardstock strips coming down to the flowers. Each flower has a green rhinstone in the centre. I was too late to enter this sketch - however it was fun doing it.

Jane's 40th Birthday Card

Well I had to get organised and do Jane's card for her birthday before she heads overseas for her 40th! She isn't into all the ribbons and girly stuff - so here is what i made. I have had this gorgeous paper for a while now and only used it one other time. I love buttons so they needed to make an appearance. I used the patterned paper to get all my colours from. I clear embossed a watermark flourish on the patterned paper - not sure how well that shows up in the photo. Also stamped a birthday wishes on the inside of the card.

I purchased some new stamps from BIG W last week and wanted to see how they looked - so i was playing around with them last night and just made this card. I like the flourishes!! I have used some of the ribbon that Amy sent me a little while ago. I really like the ribbons that she sent.

Mum's Journal

I made this journal for my mum for Christmas. I also gave her a digital camera - but that was the week before Christmas and i thought she needed to have something under the tree to open on Christmas Day!! After I made it I was so happy with it. I realised something, that i was really making it as though it was for me! I really have to start thinking of others colour favourites instead of mine!! Anyway - she said she liked it. Now I will have to come up with something to make for my Sister in Law, Jane. She is not into ribbons and fancy stuff - so i will have to come up with an idea for her - it is her 40th Birthday on 18th Jan.

Dorothy's 70th Card & Anniversary Card

I made these cards for our awesome neighbours. Dorothy had her 70th Birthday on the same day as their 50th Wedding Anniversary. I used a photo that was on their party invite and clear embossed it about 4 times and it turned out looking amazing. The photo doesn't do it justice. I am so into dusty pinks and greens at the moment.

Just Starting Out

Well, I'm just starting out this blogging thing today. My great friend Amy has got me hooked. I just love looking at other peoples blogs and getting inspiration. Over the last week we have just set up next to my treadmill my craft table and drawers. So now i dont have to drag out 3 boxes from the cupboards in the hall every time that i want to make a card!! Yeah!! Now it is all at my fingertips. Here is a photo of where i will make my FAB Creations!!!
